Hi! I’m Isabella. I am originally from Colombia. I grew up in Australia before returning to Colombia to complete high school. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in applied freshwater and marine biology from ATU Galway, Ireland. Recently, I graduated from IMBRSea, an international MSc program in marine biological resources. In my master’s, I minored in experimental ecology and specialized in aquatic animal health at Gent University, Belgium.
My main research interests are fish physiology, biology, and ecology. For my master’s thesis, I conducted a project in which I documented the course of RTFS infection in rainbow trout and tested whether infection can be delayed or prevented using essential oil immersions.
During my internship at the O’Dea Lab, I will process sediment samples to recover and identify fossil fish otoliths, contributing to the reconstruction of ancient reef ecosystems and our understanding of long-term ecological change. Joining the O’Dea Lab is a great opportunity to explore a new area of marine research and gain experience working with fossils and studying past ecosystems
